Land O' Sky's 28th Annual Luncheon

T

he Land O' Sky Doll Club, Region 8, hosted its 28th annual
luncheon this year. Keynote Speaker, Valerie Fogel,
delivered an outstanding educational program on the history
of Bru Dolls. Her program included an exhibit of magnificent
examples of the Bru Bébés.
Bradley Justice, the Barbie Expert, gave the morning
program on the history and lasting impact of the Barbie doll
in honor of the doll's 60th birthday. His program included an
extended time for questions from the audience.
The sold out event included a doll competition, sales tables,
silent auctions, helpers, door prizes, event doll and a special
design centerpiece. Competition included antique, modern and
costumed created by exhibitor categories. Several ribbons and
rosettes were awarded.
Reproduction artist, Sandi Walker, created a Bru Tetur
(event) doll and Carl Brummer designed a wooden baby doll walker,
the focal point of each centerpiece. The walker was surrounded by other
baby accessories including a knitted sweater set designed by member,
Lynnette Johnson, and a diaper made by members Alline Rhodes and
Bridget Wrede. A special drawing allowed one lucky winner at each
table to this group of accessories designed to complement the event doll.
Kenmure Country Club served a full two course meal followed by a
dessert by Club President, Linda Campbell. This multi-layer cake was
featured next to Sandi Walker's 5 foot Bru doll, Lady Grace. This setting
offered a French photo-op location for attendees.
On the Friday preceding the luncheon, Valerie lead a group
workshop featuring French paper toys and small screens. A heavy hors
d'oeuvres dinner and doll collection presentation followed, given by
Competition Chairman, Karen Delfino.
Next year's Keynote Speaker is Margaret Gray Kincaid. Her program
will feature Jumeau dolls. Further information about the luncheon for
