Steiff's circus program was the brainchild
of Steiff creative freelancer Albert Schlopsnies
starting in 1910. Schlopsnies was a passionate,
detail-oriented designer who brought enormous
energy and creativity to Steiff's doll and marketing
efforts through the 1920s. In order to produce this
circus extravaganza as realistically as possible,
Schlopsnies spent time observing all aspects of the
Circus Sarrasani. This performing troupe debuted
at the turn of last century and was headquartered
in Dresden, Germany. It was known for its huge
stable of animals as well as clowns and dramatic,
acrobatic acts from all over the world.
