he box lot of little vintage 1950s fashion dolls and
outfits that you won at auction has arrived and
you are so excited to sort through everything and
see what is really there!
The 10 ½-inch doll is marked "Ideal VT 10 ½" on the
back of her head, confirming that she is Ideal's Little Miss
Revlon, as you expected. The darling plaid dress she
wears is tagged "Cosmopolitan Ginger." Most of the loose
dresses are in great condition, and you recognize many;
some are tagged by various companies, some not, and a
few look homemade. There are stylish hats and purses,
little stockings, stoles, and pearl necklaces. And there are
SHOES: hard plastic heel shoes with elastic straps, vinyl
shoes of many designs, suedine boots and even a few wide
flat shoes that obviously weren't made for shapely arched
feet and probably fit Ginny. How will you ever match the
outfits with the correct original shoes or know which shoes
are original if you want to dress one of your other dolls?
This article is a guide to some of the shoe styles used
for different small high-heel fashion dolls of the 1950s and
early 1960s. It pulls together research from many sources
with examples from my own collection to identify what
style of shoe goes with which doll. Pairing an appropriate
