One of the most popular dolls produced by Liberty of London in
the 1950s was Queen Elizabeth II. Here we find her alongside her
husband Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and her son Prince Charles.
All three have Liberty of London blue paper tags. Elizabeth II has
been Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New
Zealand since 1952. She was born in London as the eldest child
of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen
Elizabeth (created by Liberty of London for the 1937 Coronation set).

Prince Philip, consort to Queen Elizabeth II, holds the
title Duke of Edinburgh. This title was created four times
for members of the British royal family since 1726. He
has held this position since 1947. He is the great, great
grandson of Queen Victoria.

Dealer newsletters can be valuable
sources of information. Else Clark Krug,
a doll dealer who bought dolls from
Liberty of London, was the exclusive
retailer in the United States for some
time. Her newsletters to customers
included narratives about the dolls she
was ordering which give us a timeline for
when various dolls were available. In 1952
Ms. Krug indicated to customers that she
had ordered the following dolls, though
not all were part of the 1953 Coronation:
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Consort
Philip; Bonnie Prince Charlie; Baby
Princess Anne; Queen Mother Elizabeth;
Dowager Queen Mary; Archbishop of
Canterbury; Duke of Windsor; Dean of
Westminster; Princess Margaret; Garter

Chancellor; Yeoman of the Guard;
Winston Churchill; George V; George VI;
Earl Marshall; Officers of Footguards;
