simpler-being much easier to
manufacture.

bench shows the Japan stamp.
The drop-leaf table here could
be extended by sliding out
the tiny dowels to support the
leaves.
The spinning wheel turns when
the foot pedal is pushed down.

not shown, has working clock parts with an actual clock
face, weights, hands and a place for a key to be put into to
wind it up. The clock slides apart so that you can access the
clock's inner workings.
Drop-leaf table - The leaves are held in position by tape
straps stapled under the table. Wooden dowels mounted
under the center of the table slide out to prop it open and
back to close.
Cradle - The cradle has a hole in each end to enable it to
be hung from the ceiling as a swing. It holds a doll about
3-inches long.
Dry sink - Although a real dry sink would have a working
cabinet underneath, these do not open. The interior of the
sink area is usually painted blue.
Hope/dower chest - The chest has a fully removable top and
lovely decorative moldings so it sits raised on small feet.

High chair - The high chair is an unusual piece and much
smaller scale than the other pieces.
Bench - The bench is another unusual piece.
Dishes: Small metal plates have different painted designs.
Some have been found tagged "Garden Spot China Co."
on the back.
Some of these items, like the bundling bed, dough box,
spinning wheel, and cobbler's bench, represent unique
or, in the 1950s, unusual aspects of Amish life and work.
Bundling was a custom in which courting couples were
allowed to get to know each other in supervised privacy by
snuggling fully clothed in the same bed but with a divider
between them to prevent too much intimacy.
Amish women were known for their home cooked food
and handmade bread and a dough box allowed enough
