Early in our conference planning, several registrants asked if
a trip to the Shelburne Museum was in the works. The Steering
Committee agreed to do that, so club member Pam Pezzulo took
on the task of contacting and making arrangements with the
museum for a pre-conference trip for June 3rd. Pam made sure to
follow through with cancel notifications to the museum and the
bus company.
Club members Mary Swasey, Frank Swasey, and Donelle
Denery handled the contracts and negotiations for the doll artists.
The artists, Maggie Iacono, Pat Boldt, Gail Wilson, and Elizabeth
Cooper, created magnificent dolls for our conference goers. Due to
the cancellation, the dolls were shipped to the Swasey
residence so that the club could have them sent on to
their new homes.
Many noted doll authorities volunteered to present
programs, seminars, and workshops. Club members
Donna Toneatti and Mary Swasey coordinated
presenters. Stuart Holbrook of Theriault's had agreed
to present at our opening ceremony. UFDC President
Dr. Barbara Stone was to present a Schoenhut program
at the Maple Fest luncheon. Carol Cameron (UFDC
Secretary-Treasurer) offered to present her popular
program on Queen Victoria dolls. Granite State Doll
Club, Doll Study Club
of Boston, and members
from other clubs were
to deliver talks on Steiff,
woodland creatures,
mid-20th century doll
artists working in wood,
Door of Hope dolls,
and how to build a fairy
house. A tribute dinner
to Jean Grout was to be
hosted by DSCB with
Donelle Denery and
Susan Popp presenting
their heartwarming and
funny program entitled
'Wanda's Woodland
Wanderings'. A seminar
was to be given by
Ivamarie Rideout on the
Springfield, Vermont
wooden dolls artists Joel
Ellis, Mason Taylor and
Martin. Workshops
by Rosemarie Ionker
carried our theme with
'Children of the Forest'
outfits and making a tiny
jointed wooden doll by
