Dear Doll Friends,

W

elcome to the Souvenir Journal of United Federation of Doll Clubs' 71st
Annual Convention! It is with great enthusiasm that we present the Journal
to all our members as a special insert in this issue of DOLL NEWS. While
we celebrate "The Fabulous Fifties" theme, the challenges of 2020 are fresh on our minds. It's
been an unprecedented year in our lives and we could all use a break from the trials of the past
several months. Let's all take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy our doll hobby.
I remember when UFDC President Barbara Stone came to me more than a year ago
with her idea for the fifties theme, which we approached from different perspectives. While
she has first-hand experience and memories of the 1950s, I do not. However, I was excited
to bring this iconic period in history to life for our members. Immediately, images of poodle
skirts, bobbie socks, and classic cars came to mind along with a plethora of incredible dolls
that entered the market during that decade. We know the 1950s weren't all fun and games
as we reflect on a time of segregation and the women's movement that was on the horizon.
We capture some of those moments in the convention events we have planned just as we will
capture moments from today's headlines as we move forward.
Convention Journal Editor Jennifer Kohn Murtha has worked tirelessly to compile and edit
an outstanding collection of works representing a broad variety of dolls. I would like to thank
her and everyone who contributed in making the journal a success.
To our members and everyone who strives to ensure our hobby thrives, thank you for your
support of our organization. Put your feet up and put your cares away for a while and savor the
wonderful articles this Journal offers.
