The spencer and bonnet were made by modifying
Sirkis patterns Twenty-three and Twenty-nine.

The white dress was made using a
modified Sirkis pattern Thirteen.

a dickey, long gloves, shawls and various kinds of hats and
bonnets, some decorated with flowers and ostrich feathers.
For inspiration and patterns, I turned to The Wish
Booklet, Volume 15 by Susan Sirkis. This booklet contains
fashions from 1806-1810. Patterns contained in this
booklet are for a total wardrobe and accessories. Because
the Regency era overlaps with the Empire period, there
is a pattern for a French court dress with designs for
embroidery. There are patterns for every time of day
and also a wedding dress and a riding habit. Besides the
clothing patterns, there is a pattern for a cloth doll. On the
inside cover of the booklet are dolls displayed that model
some of the dresses made by different individuals. There
is a cloth doll, a reproduction doll, a peg wooden doll and
one made by Fawn Zeller. The Fawn Zeller doll is wearing
a beautifully embroidered court costume. Although I
never knew Fawn, she was a past president of the doll
club to which I belong, the Florida West Coast Doll
Collectors Club. For this project I chose my 10½-inch china

head doll, made in Germany. Although, I know the doll
was made much later than the Regency period, I wanted
to have a doll with a sweet face.
I started the wardrobe for the doll with Sirkis' Number
Ten Simple Dress to be sure of the fit. I chose a light green
batiste and trimmed the neckline with a tiny white lace. As an
addition to the dress, I included a spencer in olive green silk
and a matching bonnet trimmed with silk ribbon flowers.
A great resource is the video YouTube Scene-by-Scene
Emma 2020 by Mariah Pattie, in which she describes
the beginning of the day with the white dress and then
various changes as the day goes on. Based on that, I
made the white dress out of translucent material with
embroidery at the bottom. It follows the design of Sirkis,
a modified pattern Number Thirteen, the Walking Dress.
Then I made a canezou from the same material as the
dress, with a ruffled collar. For later in the day, a pink
velvet bodice was worn over the white dress accompanied
by a stovepipe hat made from a thin stripped fabric and
