I have managed to collect these dolls from the unlikeliest
of places including doll shops, UFDC convention dealers and
activities, memorabilia shows and yes, even in McDonald's. I
have them in a variety of material, some created by renowned
doll artists such as Floyd Bell, who carved my bride doll from
walnut wood to Goldie Wilson who used porcelain to create
the doll and fine silk to dress her, but constructed my doll as
an automaton. There are 10-inch Madame Alexander dolls of
porcelain and hard plastic miniature wedding dolls produced
for the McDonald's Happy Meals as well as the Ashton-Drake
Galleries' wedding day doll of former First Lady Michelle
Obama and even a random unmarked porcelain bride doll
purchased more than 25 years ago from JC Penney's. Regardless
of where black bride dolls turn up, the " thrill may be in the
hunt " but the joy and beauty are equally delightful treasures in
my eyes, and they are welcomed additions to my collection.
