ou sit down at your favorite restaurant and
the moment comes when a big, thick burger
is placed in front of you. The crisp lettuce,
cold tomato, creamy mayonnaise, and tang
of yellow mustard weave their way around
the hot, juicy patty to create fireworks exploding in your
mouth like the Fourth of July. Could anything be any
better than that first bite of a burger
The perfect burger holds a different definition for
almost everyone. Some, like me, want that rich, funky
bleu cheese taste. Traditionalists scoff at anything but
American cheese with pickles and mustard. Talk to ten
people and you will probably hear at least ten burger
combinations. However you like yours assembled, a good
burger is hard to beat.
The build-your-own burger is one of the more ingenious
ways purveyors of goodness have assured customers that
they can truly have their favorite burger. As this trend
comes of age, we see additions like fried eggs, plant-based
patties, avocados, and other unique features.
Burger aficionados can generally be separated into
two categories grill and at-top. sually cooked over
charcoal, the grilled burger has a smoky, slightly charred
avor that no other burger can match. For a at-top
burger, the meat cooks in its own fat and doesn't lose
its juice to the fire. As one of my favorite Food etwork
stars says, Fat is avor!  tend to lean toward the attop
burger but won't turn down one that is grilled over
charcoal.
For a juicy burger that's just plain good, the Laredo
Cheeseburger from The aredo Grill exceeds expectations.
This burger features a perfectly cooked patty that doesn't
shy away from toppings. Lettuce, tomato, onion, and
pickles are standard, with mayonnaise and mustard
available upon request.
For the biggest variety, Hotshots delivers. Their fare
includes the Mafia Burger mozzarella sticks, marinara
sauce, and pepperoni, the Woody Burger served between
two grilled cheese sandwiches), and the Royale Burger
topped with a fried egg, just to name a few. One of their
masterpieces is the MVP Burger, the ultimate build-yourown
burger experience.
Other burger options include the Molly Burger at

Burgers are an American classic. However, El Dorado
