Reservoir, a sparkling jewel
at the edge of the Flint
Hills. The reservoir is less than a 10minute
drive from Interstate 70.
Surrounded by rugged grasslands,
Milford Lake is a giant oasis.
Plus, the 16,000-acre reservoir has
many distinctions. The Fishing Capital
of Kansas is the largest reservoir in the
state and has one of the largest
parcels of public land in Kansas.
That only starts to tell the
story about Milford Lake.
The reservoir and its
surrounding public land

are widely considered to be the state's
playground.
If you long for solitude, we have
plenty of places to get away from
everything except for the fish.
When you are searching for the
heart-stopping thrill of a covey of quail
bursting out of cover or a big buck
strolling, Milford Wildlife Area has you
covered.
For family fun, there are plenty of
places to pitch a tent or park an RV and
wide expanses of water to boat, water
ski and sail.

Maybe this sounds like bragging. But
the truth is not bragging, and we're
proud of what we have.
We've come a long way since
Congress authorized the construction
of our reservoir in 1954 and the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers began
construction in 1962. The reservoir
filled on July 13, 1967, and the story
began.
It has 14 different boat-launch areas.
Many of the Corps of Engineers ramp
areas have self-pay stations. Milford
State Park allows visitors to access three
different boat-launch areas.
Plenty of water, plenty of public
land, plenty of access - that's our story
