The previous discussion clearly shows that physical sensors will continue playing their role of enabling elements in
the evolution of modern society, which will use smart systems even more. New electronics are required which will be
available thanks to multidisciplinary research efforts and technology implementation. Finally, it is necessary to develop a
more comprehensive characterization of sensing systems that
includes a clear estimation of their environmental footprint.
