The third edition of NANOfIM was hosted by Gautham
Buddha University, located in Greater Noida, India from November 16-17, 2017. The General Chair was Prof. Shabana
Urooj. The event was characterized by a huge attendance from
the Asia continent. The inaugural ceremony is depicted in Fig.
2b. For NANOfIM 2018, Mexico City was selected by the steering committee as the location for the conference. Mexico, like
India, represents the evidence of great interest in the relationship between nanotechnology and measurements. The event
was chaired by Prof. Hiram Eredin Ponce Espinoza and was
held from November 7-8, 2018 (Fig. 2c) at the Panamerican University of Mexico City. Again, changing the continent, the 2019
edition (Fig. 2d), held last year was in Africa, more precisely in
the city of Sfax, Tunisia, from October 30-31, 2019. Colleagues of
the University of Sfax organized the conference which was Cochaired by Prof. Ramzy Maalej and Prof. Olfa Kanoun.

Members-at-large and Liaison
Initiatives
TC-34 has developed cooperation with industry as a partner in
the organization of the annual event as well as other possible
joint project initiatives. Two Italian companies serve as members-at-large for the fulfillment of some TC objectives. The first
is Echolight s.p.a. [3], which is a spinoff of the Italian National
Council of Research (CNR) whose CEO is Dr. Sergio Casciaro,
a member of TC-34. It is connected to biomedical research and
nanotechnology. The second is Roam 2000 Srl [4], an Italian
company with a specialized biomedical division working essentially on neuro and physical rehabilitation through robotic
beds. These beds are also useful in nanomedicine [5], and one
them was presented at NANOfIM 2015. They can be helpful, for
instance, in the care of patients with pulmonary diseases thanks
to drainage, and have been useful in the care of COVID-19 [6].
TC-34 has also been supporting educational initiatives by
promoting nanotechnology courses in Tunisia and DR Congo.
In the latter case, two universities are involved: ISTA University and Bel Campus University of Technology, both located in
Kinshasa. At each of the two universities, an IEEE IMS Student
Branch is under creation.

Outlook
The topics of TC-34 are promising since the nanoscale approach has a positive impact in all human activities. We do

believe cooperation with people working in the topic is very
essential. The TC is open for that.

Aimé Lay-Ekuakille (SM'12), (aime.lay.ekuakille@unisalento.
it) has been with the Department of Innovation Engineering
at the University of Salento, Italy since 2000 and is currently
the Director of the Instrumentation and Measurement Lab I.
He received the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from
the Polytechnic of Bari, Italy in 2001. Prof. Lay-Ekuakille's
main areas of research are instrumentation and measurements
for: biomedical, environmental and industrial applications;
sensors and sensing systems; nanotechnology; artificial intelligence; ageing; and characterization of photovoltaic panels. He
serves as the Chair for IEEE TC-34-Nanotechnology in Instrumentation and Measurement.
