was designed using the Proteus software. In this system, two
types of output ports, namely USB and RS232, were considered,
through which the recorded data could be saved on a computer.
Moreover, the scheduled microcontroller could be changed
by pushing the blue micro switch key designed at the edge of
hinge. The processor of this hinge is a microcontroller that can
be easily scheduled by a programmer. Parallel programming is
one of the easiest and cheapest methods of AVR micro programming.
In this method, the micro is programmed by using an SPI
protocol. In this method, it is possible to supply E2ROM and micro
fuse bits. The bases used in this microcontroller are similar
to those used in SPI protocol. However, in some microcontrollers
like ATMEGA128, DO and DI bases can be used instead
of MOSI and MISO bases. In this project, a USB programmer
was used to schedule the 3 kN ATMEGA32 microcontroller by
means of the SPI micro protocol.
In order to protect the device in an experimental environment
including dust and possible physical damages, the
system was designed in a way that it could be inserted inside
a special aluminum box for sliding while having accessibility
to the screen and connector ports. The aluminum box of inclinometer
and its location in soil bin setup are shown in Fig. 6a.
Traction Force Measurement
The traction force of the tire is the sum of all the horizontal
forces on the tire originating from the arms connected to it.
Therefore, the amount of traction force was measured by placing
four horizontal load cells in the arms attached to the wheel
and, finally, the total of these four forces was recorded as a
wheel pull (Fig. 6b).
Data Logger and Acquisition System
In this study, the data acquisition system was linked to a data
logger and laptop computer. Load cells and the inclinometer
were connected to a data logger via 6 pin block terminals
(Phoenix brand). The applied data logger had ten channels
