The results show an intriguing insensitivity to both parameters
with a variation of about 1.2 mV for a corresponding
relative humidity variation in the range 30-90%. The temperature
influences the living sensor with a variation of the output
voltage of about 30 mV in correspondence of about 45 °C. Considering
indoor applications and confined environments, the
temperature range that could alter the performance presented
in Table 1 can be considered out of interest. The activity demonstrated
here raises particular interest for the realization of
nontoxic, eco-friendly, low-cost, and mimetic sensors that take
advantage of the natural transduction abilities of living organisms.
The case study was based on the measurement of
UV-A radiation which is of interest for various applications
including environmental monitoring, cultural heritage applications,
indoor and outdoor spaces, and plant welfare. Indeed,
the results obtained highlight the relevance of the proposed
