AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF ORTHODONTISTS FOUNDATION
Two videos can now be found on the Foundation Web site: (www.aaofoundation.net). The first is on the Overall Awards Program and features a number of AAOF volunteer leaders, current department chairs and program directors supported by the Foundation early in their academic careers. The second is on the Collections Project and features some of the people involved in this unprecedented collaborative undertaking to not only preserve legacy orthodontic records, but to make them accessible to one and all for education and research purposes, without charge. To access these videos, go to the Web site and click on the top horizontal tab labeled “Videos/Testimonials”. Among those featured in the above videos are Sheldon Baumrind (PCSO/CA), of the Craniofacial Research Instrumentation Laboratory at the University of the Pacific and Chair of the Curators Committee for the Collections Project; and Kang “Eric” Ting (PCSO/CA), Chair of the Orthodontic Section at UCLA Orthodontics. Soon, there will be more videos available; these will feature some 15 educators and key volunteers who will provide testimonials of their involvement with the Foundation—some have been on board since the Awards Program began in 1994.
AAOF @ 2013 AAO ANNUAL SESSION
At the Annual Session in Philadelphia in May 2013, the AAOF will hold a gourmet wine tasting event featuring four premium wines from Jawbone Winery & Vineyards, with hors d’oeuvres masterfully prepared by the executive chief of Le Meridien Hotel to match each wine. This fundraising event is planned for Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM—immediately after the lectures and exhibits close—at the Le Meridien Hotel located near the convention center. In addition to tasting four brilliant wines (a 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2008 Pinot Noir, a 2009 Riesling, and a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon), the event features a silent auction of various Jawbone vintages, among other items, and an announcement of an important new direction in the AAO Foundation Awards Program that is designed to realize $300,000 or more annually, over time, in a new orthodontic research endeavor. The expenses are partially underwritten by Jawbone, and proceeds benefit the AAO Foundation. Tickets are offered at $100 each, of which $40 is a charitable deduction. For tickets, please see the registration pages of the Annual Session Preview Program, to be posted soon on the AAO Web site. The venue can only accommodate 400 people, so please secure your tickets for this very special event before it is sold out. Come join us for a fabulous reception and be among the very first to hear about the important new direction of the AAOF Awards Program.
