Portrait of a Professional MARK DOUGLAS dds ROCKLIN, CALIFORNIA S By Dr. Shahram Nabipour, PCSO Bulletin Central Region Editor hahram Nabipour (SN): Tell me about your childhood: where you were born and grew up, some details about your immediate family. Are there any other dentists in your family? Mark Douglas (MD): I was born in 1955 to Clayton and Ruth Douglas, the second of three children, in Los Angeles, California. With an older brother and a younger sister (by three years each), I grew up as the middle child, exhibiting all the various quirks and competitive spirit that come with that place in the birth order. In my early childhood, our family moved to the then-rural Palos Verdes Peninsula, where I developed a keen love of nature and the outdoors. The beach was also a pivotal part of my growing up, and led to a lifetime love of most all water sports. I graduated from Rolling Hills High School in 1973 Mark, trekking in denali and eventually graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in biology (after a stint at CSC Dominguez Hills and CSU Long Beach). My brother is a family physician and my sister is a special education teacher. There are no other dentists in my family tree. Mark and his ortho team FALL 2013 • PCSO BuLLetin 23
