pcso business COMPONENT REPORTS Saskatchewan, Canada T he first half of 2014 has proven to be uneventful for the Saskatchewan Society of Orthodontists. We had our 2013 Annual Session in September at the Holiday Inn in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Annual reports were given and it was our best-attended meeting to date! Executive members are Dr. Michael Wagner, President; Dr. Kent Goldade, Secretary; and Dr. Kamrin Olfert, Treasurer. A lot of discussion focused on the lack of available orthodontic assistants, and the SSO is looking at options to increase their numbers. Our fourth Annual Session was a great success. Over 70 participants attended, and we had representation from every orthodontic office in the area except for two! Invisalign generously sponsored the event, and Dr. William Kottemann gave a lively presentation to the staff and doctors. Recognition needs to be given to Dr. Mike Wagner for organizing the event. Thanks for your help, Mike! Kam Olfert Secretary/Treasurer Regina, SK Canada attendees. A delicious breakfast and lunch was included in the registration fee, and attendees also had the opportunity to meet with vendors. Current WSSO president, Dr. Jackie Bunce, testified at a denturist hearing held in Tumwater, WA, on April 25. Dr. Mark Drangsholt, a faculty member in the Oral Medicine Department at the University of Washington, and Mr. Mike Walsh, a Washington State Dental Association representative, also testified. They expressed patient safety/denturist educational requirement concerns regarding recently passed Washington state legislation that expands the scope of care for denturists in Washington State. The WSSO continues to have concerns about this legislation, which allows denturists to fabricate bruxism splints, snore guards, and customized bleach trays independent of a dentist. The WSSO is seeking a new Washington State PCSO Director. Dr. Jackie Bunce has served in this position for the past four years. The new director will attend PCSO Board meetings, starting with the PCSO Annual Session in Anaheim this fall. Most directors serve four years (two terms at two years each). Interested candidates should contact the WSSO for more information. Washington Jackie Bunce President Bellevue, WA E ffective July 1, 2014, the Washington State Society of Orthodontists officers will be as follows: Dr. Shafeena Chatur, President; Dr. Barbara Sheller, Vice President; Dr. Graham Jones, Secretary/ Treasurer, and Immediate Past President, Dr. Jackie Bunce. The WSSO sponsored a continuing education event on Friday, February 28, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, WA. All-day education was provided for doctors and staff. There were approximately 350 8 California Session, on Thursday, October 2, 2014. The afternoon promises to be dynamic and fun; attendees will be treated to a wonderful program and have chances to win attendance prizes. CAO's consumer awareness initiatives continue: we are working in partnership with the AAO to create co-branded materials for members to use in their practices. These materials will be available for download directly from the CAO member website. They are designed to retain the CAO "flavor" while incorporating AAO messages on the importance of selecting an orthodontic specialist to provide treatment and care. A public site is also under construction, and is expected to launch in the next few months. Visitors to the site will find information on what to expect from orthodontic care, and will be able to locate a CAO member orthodontist in their area. CAO has revitalized the Website Editor position. A new editor is expected to start work around June 1st. This individual will update and maintain the information on the site, ensuring that it remains a valuable resource for news and current information for members. Access to quality dental care is an issue of great concern. In addition to annual support of the CDA Cares program, CAO is at work to identify other orthodontic access opportunities for members who would like to become more involved. Dr. Robert Meister President Laguna Hills, CA A s announced in March, Lee Ann Peniche has been selected to present the CAO staff training course in Anaheim. She will offer a presentation entitled, "Master Treatment." The course will be offered immediately preceding the start of the PCSO Annual S PCSO BULLETIN * SUMMER 2014
