As we look toward summer and our members
prepare for family vacations or busy practice
schedules, we want to update you on things
happening in and around the PCSO. Like last year,
we thought it was fitting to do a joint report for
the summer Bulletin publication since so much
of our work is a collaborative effort between the
volunteer leaders and executive director of the
PCSO. Coming off of the ad interim meeting, it is
a busy time for our committees, task forces, and
delegation, as they work to better the society for
all PCSO members.
In May, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) concluded a very successful annual
session in our very own PCSO backyard, Los
Angeles. Your PCSO representatives met for the
AAO House of Delegates, held in conjunction
with the annual session, to deal with many issues
affecting our specialty. From a new innovation
and transformation fund, to the start of researching options for nondues revenue, to a new
task force dealing with the consumer advocacy
program assessment, the AAO is continuing its
mission to serve our members and improve our
specialty. Your delegation, chaired by Dr. Ron
Wolk, welcomed back Dr. Todd Walkow to the
delegation and introduced Dr. John Trotter as an
alternate delegate. The delegation represented
the membership admirably and made significant
contributions that will help lead our organization
into the future. (You can read more about this

We have three critical issues task forces plugging
away. The first deals with volunteerism within
the PCSO and is chaired by Dr. Trista Felty. They
are looking at ways to enhance the "call for volunteers" survey and to engage more members in
volunteer positions. The second deals with component resources and is chaired by Dr. Michael
Feinberg. They are looking at ways that the PCSO
can better support its component societies. The
third deals with nondues revenue and is chaired
by Dr. Dean Heinrichs. They are looking at ways
for the PCSO to create more revenue opportu-

nities outside of membership dues in order to
provide new and better member services.
Our social media committee, chaired by Dr. Rooz
Khosravi and supported by consultant Ms. Megan
Wyrick, has been actively working to beef up
the presence of PCSO on Facebook and Instagram. Make sure to like our pages https://www.

Our Bulletin Review Task Force, chaired by Dr.
Andrew Harner, has just concluded a first-ever
readership survey in the hopes of making improvements to this publication in the coming year
and ensure it is what the readers want. They are
looking specifically at content and distribution
methods.
Education continues to be a core tenet of the
PCSO mission, and we have several committees working simultaneously. The 2020 Annual
Session Planning Committee has begun their
work for a magical meeting in Anaheim. Planning
committee members include Drs. Robert Meister
(President-Elect), John Trotter (General Chair), Bill
Dischinger (Doctor Program Chair), Trista Felty
(Staff Program Co-Chair), Nicole Starkey (New and
Younger Member), Michael Chaffee (RMSO), and
Anil Idiculla (RMSO), as well as Ms. Andrea Cook
(Staff Program Co-Chair) and Mr. Kamal Ali (Allied
Member representing OrthoClassic). The planning
committee for 2021 in Portland has also started
to take form with members, so far, including Drs.
Marie Lathrop (Secretary-Treasurer), Mary Cooke
(General Chair), Anil Idiculla (Doctor Program
Chair), and Kelly Giannetti (Team Program CoChair).
In case you haven't already heard, we have two
very exciting leadership positions being elected
this fall for the first time ever. The PCSO will be
electing the Delegation Chair with one of two
three-year terms to begin in January 2020. In
addition, the PCSO will be electing a New and
Younger Member Director-at-Large for the PCSO
