Alaska
The days are getting shorter as
we approach the dark months of
winter up here in the northland.
The timing of the PCSO Annual
Session in Hawaii couldn't have been better, and
several of us from the Alaska Component took
advantage of the venue to get some much-needed sunshine. A big "thank you" is deserved for
all those who put so much time and effort into
making the meeting a great success!
Preparations are underway for our component
meeting, which will be held in March 2020 at the
Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. We
look forward to hearing from Dr. Christian Kenworthy, who will talk to us about the many exciting advancements and changes we are seeing in
the specialty today. Our business meeting will be
held immediately following the lecture.

Alberta
The 2020 Annual Session of the
Alberta Society of Orthodontists
(ASO) will be held at the Fairmont
Banff Springs Hotel in Banff,
Alberta, Canada, on March 13 and 14, 2020. We
have an incredible lineup of speakers this year,
featuring THE GUARDIANS OF THE PROFESSION
theme: Dr. Willy Dayan and his treatment coordinator Laura Cafik-Martin, Dr. Anil Idiculla, Dr.
Terry Sellke, and consultant Ken Goldstein from
the Goldstein Group.
This inclusive event is for both doctors and team
members alike. Enjoy the splendor of the Fairmont
Banff Springs Hotel while learning from the leaders in the business! Topics will include Leadership,
the Doctor and TC Dance, Team Culture, Emerging
Technologies, and a few more surprises.
The ASO has decided to continue waiving membership fees for the 2019/2020 cycle. This means,

once again, there is now no cost to become a
member. We encourage all interested Alberta
orthodontists to take advantage of this.
The main current topic of discussion at the ASO is
the rise of direct-to-consumer aligner companies
in Alberta. The ASO Executive has been in many
discussions with the provincial Alberta Dental Association and College leadership regarding this issue.

Our annual state meeting was
on December 2, 2019 at Top Golf
in Scottsdale again this year. Our
guest speaker was Dr. Ravindra
Nanda. Dr. Nanda spoke on the topics "Acceleration of Orthodontic Tooth Movement: Possibilities
and Limitations," "Management of Smile Zone
Discrepancies With and Without TADs," as well
as "Management of Open Bite Patients With and
Without TADs." We would like to wish everyone a
healthy and safe holiday season!

We are changing our meeting
format this year and focusing
our time on two meetings, one in
November and our annual general
meeting in June. We are also cohosting a continuing education event in April with two vendors,
which should have a great turnout.
