2020 PCSO Annual Session Honoree
The Annual Session Honoree Award is a recognition given to a PCSO member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and professional
qualities and who has given unselfishly of his or
her time and talent to promote the association
and the orthodontic profession.
Dr. Ronald Jawor, the 2020 honoree, was born
and grew up in Chicago and is the youngest of
two children. His father was a physician and surgeon and his mother a schoolteacher.

Dr. Jawor received his bachelor of arts and
sciences degree from Northwestern University.
He attended Loyola University, Chicago College
of Dental Surgery, where he received his DDS
degree. During his freshman year, he married
Irm, the love of his life. After dental school, Dr.
Jawor was accepted as a resident into the dental
school's orthodontic program, completing his
training and receiving a certificate of specialty in
1971.
Having enlisted in the United States Air Force
Early Commissioning Program in 1966, upon
completion of his training, Dr. Jawor entered
active duty, where he was stationed at Edwards
Air Force Base (AFB), Edwards, California together
with Irm and now their three children. During this
time, Dr. Jawor provided in-service lectures to the
dentists stationed at Edwards AFB, March AFB,
and later El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
In 1975, Dr. Jawor established a private practice
in Irvine, California, serving and supporting the
greater community to the highest standards of
professional excellence for the next 43 years. Also
in 1975, he became a founding member of the
BioProgressive Study Club of Southern California,
later to become the Academy for Orthodontic
Excellence (AOE). Since serving as its president in
1978, Dr. Jawor has served and still serves as the
study club's treasurer, manager, and member
of its program committee. Together with two
esteemed members, 4- to 5-day-long continuing
education meetings are planned and presented

each year, hosting local, national, and internationally acclaimed speakers. From its humble
beginning with 10 founding members, today the
study club has grown to include 70 members.
The AOE, as it is known, has become an incubator
for the association's leadership and a leader in
academics as well.
In 1996, Dr. Jawor was nominated to and joined
the PCSO Board of Directors. At the first Board
Meeting, he was appointed as PCSO liaison to the
California Association of Orthodontists, meeting
with CAO leadership four times per year and
participating in their meetings and reporting to
the PCSO board. During his tenure on the PCSO
board, Dr. Jawor was appointed to numerous
committee and task force positions and served as
an AAO delegate or alternate delegate from 1997
through 2000. In 2000, Dr. Jawor was nominated
to and joined the California Association of Orthodontists Board of Directors and in a few short
years became its 2005-2006 president.
In 2003, Dr. Jawor was invited to join the faculty
in the Department of Orthodontics, Loma Linda
University School of Dentistry, as a part-time
assistant clinical professor, an appointment that
continues today.
In 2007, Dr. Jawor was elected to a fellowship in
the American College of Dentists, in recognition
of his service and devotion to the advancement
of the science and art of dentistry, a distinction
bestowed to fewer than 3.5% of dentists.
In 2008, Dr. Jawor was once again nominated to
fill a newly vacated position on the PCSO Board
of Directors. As a new director, Dr. Jawor was
assigned as a member or chair of numerous committees and task forces, including the new Critical
Issues Task Force, proposed and established by
former PCSO President Dr. Lesley Williams. Also
in 2008, Dr. Jawor was selected to serve as a delegate to the AAO House of Delegates (2008-2014)
and in 2011 was elected to the position of PCSO
secretary/treasurer, becoming the 2013-2014
