Executive Update

This has certainly been an unforgettable year. Not
only is the West Coast suffering from unprecedented wildfires, we are also in the midst of a
colossal upheaval of society with a trifecta of
events taking place simultaneously: the COVID-19
pandemic and its health ramifications, massive
unemployment and its economic impact, and
racial injustices and their societal implications
being brought further into the light. These are
challenging times to say the least. We have been
called upon over the last 8 to 9 months to work,
meet, educate, network, and support one another
in ways that we never would have imagined
when 2020 began.
The PCSO compiled resources for you on how to
get through the pandemic and reopen your offices.
We provided webinars to support you during your
closures. And we have worked so hard over the
summer to transition what was to be an amazing
in-person 2020 Annual Session at the Disneyland
Hotel to a virtual experience for all of you instead.
While I am sure many of you are beginning to
suffer from online fatigue, it is exciting to see how
many members registered for this event! We are
pleased to have partnered with the Rocky Mountain Society, Midwestern Society, and Southwestern Society for this first-ever virtual meeting.
We hope that you have found value in the efforts
and resources of the PCSO over the past few
months and as a result will demonstrate your
continued support of the association by renewing
your membership. We are stronger together! The
AAO has extended the time frame that you can
sign up for installment payments this year, in addition to providing a one-time discount for paying
your membership dues via ACH as opposed to
credit card and a significant reduction in the CAP
assessment.
Activity Highlight
Our committees and task forces have worked
tirelessly over the summer months and accomplished a great deal in preparation for the PCSO

board meeting. Here is a snippet of what they
have been working on.

Component Relations: This relatively new
committee has been working to develop
additional support and resources for all 11 of
our component societies. They were planning
a meeting with all presidents and presidents-elect to happen in conjunction with the
AAO Winter Conference. This is now being
transitioned, however, and details are still
being worked out. Committee members also
have developed templates and guidelines on
topics such as bylaws, policies, and accounting for component leadership (both large
and small) and hope to be able to roll these
resources out in the near future.
Continuing Education: The members of this
committee have divided themselves up to
allow for different individuals to be in charge
of various tasks such as sponsorship and
exhibits, special events, and speakers. They
have also implemented a new speaker solicitation and selection process going forward.
The group will begin their meeting planning
with the 2022 PCSO/RMSO spring continuing
education event to be held March 4-5 in Las
Vegas and, once again, featuring the Ritz
Carlton Leadership Center.
Annual Session: I hope you saw value in
the virtual 2020 event that we were able to
provide for you. While we were disappointed
to not be at Disney this year, we are happy to
report that we will be taking the meeting back
to the Happiest Place on Earth in 2023! We
are also well underway with planning for the
2021 Annual Session in Portland, Oregon, for
October 21-24.
