to be elected to the position of president-elect of
the AAO.
I am writing this article on November 13, 2020.
Active member renewals stand at 83.9%. The AAO
is currently four weeks behind last year's numbers, or about 2.8% of our members. US active
renewals are strong at 84.7%, versus the AAO goal
of 78% at this same time.
Our weakness is in Canada, where Canadian
actives stand at 68.8% renewed and international
members with 64.5% renewed.
The Winter Conference scheduled to take place in
Palm Desert, California (February 12-14, 2021), will
now be held virtually because of the increasing
COVID-19 cases in California; registration remains
open for the virtual conference.
The Annual Session in Boston, Massachusetts has
been delayed until June 25-27 and registration has
not opened as of this writing. This meeting will be
a " hybrid " meeting: face-to-face and virtual.
The year 2020 is ending with 1.1 billion ad views
and 5.9 million views of the consumer website.

The Consumer Awareness Campaign (CAP), while
funded at a lower level than last year, continues.
In fact, CAP's Happy Mouth Campaign surpassed
10 million views and was featured in Adweek, a
national advertising publication. The millennial
mom Instagram influencer campaign reached
more than 2 million individuals.
AAO Legal and Advocacy have worked on advocacy issues in more than 38 states and 2 provinces.
Teledentistry is looming large on the horizon,
and the American Dental Association (ADA), at
the most recent ADA House of Delegates, passed
a new Teledentistry Resolution (16S-4 Revised 2
Thirteenth District). This one was modified many
times, and the California (13th District) version
finally passed. I will discuss this in my spring
article.
