Halloween, 2019: Dr. Kim, other orthodontic faculty members, and clinical staff members
pursued this additional degree, she responded,
" As an orthodontist, I knew 'what' I wanted to
teach, but wanted to learn 'how' to teach it. "
Dr. Kim has been implementing the knowledge
that she gained through this program into her
daily teaching, some of which deals with student-centered teaching and learning. Dr. Kim is
a self-proclaimed " technical nerd. " This program
also taught her about the latest educational
technologies. Educational technology tools can
facilitate student-centered teaching and learning,
especially in this day and age of online teaching
and learning. Dr. Kim is excited about seeing the
benefits of the educational technology tools in
action at the OHSU School of Dentistry. She plans
to share her educational expertise with her faculty colleagues and residents.

Winter 2021 PCSO Bulletin

Dr. Kim (moderator) introduces Dr. Laura Iwasaki
(speaker), the chair of the OHSU Department of
Orthodontics, at the 2019 AAO Annual Session
Reflecting back on her first career choice in
marketing and public relations, Dr. Kim shared,
" My parents and I laugh (in a good way) about me
having earned the MS degree in curriculum and
instruction. My dad is a retired professor, holding
a PhD in education, and my mom is a medical
doctor. I did not go into either the education or
healthcare field after earning my undergrad, and
now I am in both the education and healthcare
fields! "
One of the messages that Dr. Kim likes to share
with her students and residents is, " Don't fear
technology. Embrace it and keep learning new
technologies. They are here to stay and are one of
the critical keys to your clinical success! "
