successful year filled with many PCSO accomplishments.
I
have always found the time and effort associated
with supporting, preserving, and advancing
our great profession to be deeply gratifying. However,
the true reward has been all the friendships I
have made throughout the journey. It is for these
many friendships that I am blessed and most
grateful.
2021 PCSO Award of Merit
The PCSO Award of Merit was established in 1987
to recognize and honor a PCSO member who is
an orthodontist or paraprofessional within the
geographic boundaries of the PCSO and who has
made a significant contribution to the orthodontic
specialty over a number of years.
Dr. Jae Hyun Park
Dr. Jae Hyun Park is the professor and chair of
the Postgraduate Orthodontic Program at the
Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health. He
is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics,
where he serves as an examiner and
director of their Board, representing the PCSO.
He will be the American Board of Orthodontics
(ABO) president in 2024. Dr. Park has received
several awards for scientific and clinical excellence,
including the Charley Schultz Award
(first place in the Scientific Category of the
Orthodontic Resident Scholars Program) and
the Joseph E. Johnson Award (first place in the
Table Clinic Competition) from the AAO. He also
serves as an editorial board member of several
international, peer-reviewed orthodontic and
dental journals, including The Angle Orthodontist,
Seminars in Orthodontics, and Journal of
Clinical Orthodontics (JCO). He is also associate
editor of the American Journal of Orthodontics
and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO), Orthodontics
& Craniofacial Research, Journal of World
Federation of Orthodontists, Journal of Clinical
Pediatric Dentistry, and Journal of Esthetic and
Restorative Dentistry. He was recently appointed
deputy editor of the AJO-DO and the new clinical
journal, AJO-DO Clinical Companion. Since 2008,
while working as a full-time faculty member,
he has published more than 300 scientific and
clinical articles in peer-reviewed orthodontic
and dental journals, including six cover pages in
the AJO-DO, three cover pages in the JCO, three
books, and 22 book chapters. One of his Case of
the Month articles in the AJO-DO was recently
selected to receive the 2021 College of Diplomates
of the American Board of Orthodontics
(CDABO) Case Report of the Year Award during
the AAO Annual Session. He lectures nationally
and internationally and represented the AAO at
the 2018 ADA Annual Session, where he presented
a three-hour lecture. Dr. Park is currently
editor-in-chief of the journal of the PCSO (PCSO
Bulletin) and past-president of the Arizona State
Orthodontic Association. He also serves on the
Integrated National Board Dental Examination
Ortho-Pediatric Dentistry/Advanced Dental
Admission Test Construction Committee and
is a Commission on Dental Accreditation site
visitor. He was appointed to be the 2021 General
and Scientific Program Chair at the CDABO
annual meeting. Recently, Dr. Park was elected
to replace the immediate past-president of the
National E.H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, Dr.
Ronald Champion. He is currently working as
the Central Body Director representing Northern
California Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists
(EHASO). Lastly, he was appointed to be a
founding member of the AAO Committee on
Conferences & Meetings. In this capacity, he will
be serving on the AAO Annual Session Doctor's
Scientific Program Committee.
