In Memoriam
of the Continuing Education Committee. In the
Edward H. Angle Society, Lee served as president
of the Northern California Angle Society, president
of the National Angle Society, and program
chair for the National Biennial Meeting in Sun
Valley in 1991. He was also a reviewer for the
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial
Orthopedics and a consultant, specialty and chief
examiner for certification of orthodontic specialists
in British Columbia.
Lee and his wife Sandee were also philanthropic
in their community, hosting many garden events
for Merced charitable organizations. Lee served
as president of Merced County's Yosemite Dental
Society and president of the North Merced Rotary
Club, and he was a Paul Harris Fellow. His fellow
Rotarians always liked his storytelling, based on
true experiences, but embellished enough to be
humorous.
Those who either met Dr. Lee Boese or attended
his many presentations at orthodontic meetings
were impressed with his passion and knowledge
of orthodontics and ability to communicate with
others. And for those of us who were so fortunate
to work alongside Lee in either the PCSO and/or
the Angle Society, we witnessed not only his passion
but also his care for people and our specialty.
Lee, thanks for your contributions to our specialty;
it was a pleasure to work alongside you!

Dr. Donald Wayne Linck,
May 27, 1938-November 3, 2020
Donald Wayne Linck II passed away suddenly
of septic shock on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
That day, we lost the consummate orthodontist:
a premier clinician, a clear thinker,
a caring professional, and a selfless contributor
to our profession. Don touched every
life that crossed his path. When Don walked
into a meeting room, whether it was an AAO
meeting, Angle Society, or study club, you
hoped the speaker presented the information
honestly, because Don-in his soft-spoken
voice-would phrase his question to keep the
speaker's statements honest. Don was the
conscience for the group!
Don was born May 27, 1938, in Fairbanks, Alaska,
the son of Donald W. Linck Sr. and Sylvia Schmidt.
His early years were spent in Virginia while his
father attended medical school. While in grade
school, his family moved to San Mateo, California.
He attended Park School and San Mateo High
School, where he graduated in 1956. While in
high school, he was a three-sport athlete, which
included football, basketball, and track and field.
He was inducted into the San Mateo High School
Hall of Fame for football and basketball.
Don attended the University of California, Berkeley,
where he played freshman football and majored
in predental studies. In 1963, he completed
his dental degree at the University of California,
San Francisco (UCSF). Upon graduation, Don
married Linda, and together they entered the U.S.
Navy. Don served as the dental officer on the USS
Estes, landing the first Marines at Chu Lai during
the Vietnam War. Upon discharge, he practiced
dentistry in Berkeley, where he first became interested
in studying occlusion. He never stopped
his quest to learn more about his profession.
Within a year, he entered a postdoctoral program
