and AAO are thrilled with the strong relationship and
support we receive through our Washington State
Dental Association. This relationship and the grassroots
efforts by Washington State orthodontists and
dental providers who reached out to members of the
legislative body and specifically the House Committee
for Health and Wellness was instrumental in achieving
their unanimous support of the bill, allowing the bill
to move on to the subsequent steps to eventually be
considered by the Senate. As can happen, politics got
in the way of the bill being heard on its own merits,
and it was killed in process along with a significant
amount of other house bills preventing it and all other
Republican bills from moving on and being considered
by the Senate. However, the relationships that
have been, and will continue to be, developed will
help pave the way to the next legislative sessions. The
WSSO is grateful for the amazing work and support by
the AAO team with Governmental Affairs through this
process and through this next year. We encourage all
orthodontists in Washington and other components
of the PCSO to develop and forge relationships with
your own legislators and be involved in the legislative
processes.
