Delegation
In May, the American Association of Orthodontists
(AAO) hosted its House of Delegates in conjunction
with the annual session in Miami, Florida, in person for
the first time since 2019. The group addressed issues
affecting the specialty and worked to ensure a nimbler
association, including nonproprietary standards
for data interoperability, revised orthodontic definitions,
automatic component membership assignment
for all student and service members, investigation of a
revenue-sharing model between AAO and constituents,
a one-year shortened term on the board of
trustees, and ways to deal with a deficit budget. Your
delegation, chaired by Dr. Paul Kasrovi, welcomed
Drs. Mary Cooke, Melanie Parker, and John Trotter as
delegates and Drs. Jose Castillo and Michael Feinberg
as alternate delegates. The delegation should be
commended for their work in support of the AAO's
mission, representing the membership well. (You can

Committees and Task Forces
The Orthodontic Staff Critical Issues Task Force, chaired
by Dr. J DeMeo, will be looking at how the PCSO can
support members dealing with orthodontic staff
shortages. They will be looking at ways to help with
staff recruitment and retention, staff training resources,
and other issues related to staffing. We also have task
forces working to identify a new meeting registration
and mobile app as well as possible board/committee
online communication and working platform.
The Diversity/Equity/Inclusion (DEI) Task Force,
chaired by Dr. Nancy Gum, is creating a toolkit/FAQ for

report for this summer update to share the current
happenings in and around the PCSO. There is so
much collaboration in the work of PCSO's volunteer
leaders and executive director. And although summer
may seem like a time to sit back on our laurels and
enjoy family vacations, time by the pool, baseball
games, and BBQs, the PCSO remains committed to
persevering and working hard for all our members
through task force, committee, board, and delegation
work to better the society for all of you.

volunteers to ensure it is equitable.
The Component Relations Committee, chaired by Dr.
Michael Feinberg, continues its work to develop new
resources to assist PCSO component leadership. This
includes programming at the annual session as well
as PCSO officer liaisons, future leadership development
sessions, and assistance with volunteerism.
The Continuing Education (CE) Committee, chaired
by Dr. Mary Cooke, remains steadfast in its work to
produce an outstanding event for everyone this fall
in San Diego. There is something for everyone, and
we invite you to bring your team with you for this
PCSO and RMSO joint annual session. We are thrilled
to be able to provide this in-person meeting for our
members after two long years. Registration is open
now! You won't want to miss it. The CE Committee has
also begun working on next year's Western Orthodontic
Conference (WOCON), which we are thrilled to
present to you in Anaheim at the Disneyland Hotel. In
addition, a Virtual Learning/Webinars Subcommittee,
chaired by Dr. Amelia Stoker, is building out an all-new
platform for online learning opportunities to supplement
our in-person educational events.
The Membership & Communications Committee,
chaired by Dr. Adam Welmerink, is leading the charge
on PCSO's member needs assessment. This is a
multipronged endeavor that includes one-on-one
interviews, focus groups, and a membership survey.
We hope that you will take time to provide your feedback
on this survey. The results from the qualitative
and quantitative data collected will help us update
our strategic plan and guide the future of the PCSO to
better serve you.
The Non-Dues Revenue (NDR) Committee, chaired
by Dr. Eric Burgin, has recommended, and the board
approved, three PCSO-endorsed companies to date.
These companies offer exclusive discounts and benefits
to PCSO members. The NDR Committee has created
a standard review process to vet future endorsed
companies as well as set offerings that PCSO will
