Flightcell
As relatively inexpensive airborne communication
services based on cellular networks have become increasingly popular among operators, so have options
for when the aircraft is not within range of a suitable
cell tower. Corporate and business users have come
to depend on reliable ways to reach out, and so do law
enforcement, EMS and a host of other special-mission
operators, often supplementing their terrestrial communication services with satellite access.
Enter Flightcell's D Mx, which combines cellular with
satellite communications into a single, seamless box.
ith the D Mx, operators have two connectivity methods for their voice, text and data communication needs,
including ight tracking and operational data. The D Mx
is built in a modular design allowing multiple transceiver
configuration options, and room for expansion. Customers can e uip with up to two internal transceivers, plus
expansion options like ARI C 2 connectivity and a
second Ethernet port.

e want operators to be able to communicate in
the air like they do on the ground, Flightcell's Michael
Eddy told AEA attendees. This app allows pilots and
crew to be able to access ground-based voice and data
services from their smart devices.
Flightcell's Connect app is available for both i S and
Android devices and is used with installed D Mx units

FreeFlight Systems
FreeFlight Systems is a Texas-based avionics
design and manufacturing company. Founded in 2
,
FreeFlight developed the first certified aviation AAS
PS receiver and the first rule-compliant AT
M z ADS-B system. At the 2
AEA Convention, the
company announced extending its Avail Performance
Package ADS-B solution to include select legacy
business jets.
Included in the Avail for ets package are dual
Mode S ES transponders, a RA
R-R
ADS-B
receiver with an internal AAS PS, integrated i-Fi
and a single control head. This package provides a
certified and complete ADS-B solution the company
noted is ideal for Citation and earjet operators, substantially extending their useful lives. FreeFlight's
FD -T is one of the smallest Mode S ES transponders and can be mounted anywhere within the
pressure vessel, including in a standard 2.25-inch
instrument mounting hole. The TS 'd RA
R-R
is an ADS-B ut-compliant position source and
serves as an ADS-B In receiver for Flight Information
Services-Broadcast and Traffic Information ServicesBroadcast data.
Also new from FreeFlight is the RAD- 5 radar altimeter display, which is designed to exceed new EASA
trend indicator regulations for helicopter operations.
The system also meets all current FAA regulations and
provides critical information to the pilot when there are
no visual cues to the landscape surrounding the aircraft.
The panel-mount display is easy to install, programmable via SB or micro SD card, and is compatible with
FreeFlight Systems' RA, RA- 5 and FRA-55
radar altimeters, plus those from other manufacturers
through a standard serial interface. In addition to the
standard RAD- 5, an optional night vision goggle compatible display is available. The RAD- 5 series offers a
form-fit replacement option for existing RAD- displays.
