Aerospace Optics
The industry's need for innovative aircraft illumination
isn't limited to just position lights or strobes . In the cockpit and cabin, properly illuminating system controls and
switches is just as important to operators and regulators as
ensuring an aircraft's exterior can be seen
at night on a busy taxiway . To
meet this need, a wide array
of switches, controls and
indicators are available
to installers, allowing
them to configure systems and circuits for
optimal utility and safety .
VIVISUN's LOGIC Series switches
One of the long-time supinclude integrated electronics,
pliers of configurable switchsuch as latching flip-flops,
Boolean logic and the new DC
es and controls is Aerospace
voltage sensor component.
Optics, which manufactures the
popular VIVISUN products . Joe
Stiffler introduced his company's newest additions to the
market during the AEA Convention .
The VIVISUN line of illuminated push-button switches
and controls removes circuit logic decisions from wiring
harnesses and discrete components, placing them in the
switch itself or in a behind-the-panel logic module, Stiffler
told attendees . The company's LOGIC series of switches
can be thought of as a series of building blocks, which
integrate common components and can be used to create
up to 600,000 electronic switching solutions . According
to Stiffler, these can include electronic latching, flip-flops,
Boolean logic, solid-state relays, diodes and many others .
The latest addition to VIVISUN's product line is the
LOGIC series DC voltage sensor, a compact, solid-state
switching component allowing simple integration into nonstandard systems like cabin entertainment, special-mission
and aeromedical, and comes in two versions . The VSD1
DC voltage sensor allows installers to choose 1-volt increments between 2 and 50 volts and can be used for bus
monitoring or as a voltage-level trigger . The result can be
as simple as energizing an indicator light . Meanwhile, the
VSD2 voltage sensor is a wide hysteresis device, affording
the designer separate pull-in and drop-out logic, plus immunity to bus fluctuation . It can be used for automatic power
switchover applications or to interface with non-standard
voltage systems .

Aircell
"In-flight connectivity continues to be a red-hot segment"
of the avionics industry, David Salvador, Aircell's director
of aftermarket sales, told attendees . To help meet market
demands, Aircell announced its brand-new ST 4300 in-

flight communications
solution for business
aircraft at the AEA
Convention . Salvador
also announced Aircell
is launching the Gogo
Aircell's ST 4300
Biz in-flight Internet
in-flight communications solution
and voice service in
for business aircraft
Canada as of April 1,
2014 . The coverage expansion means Gogo Biz customers
can use the service anywhere it's available over the continental U .S ., in Alaska and for flights in Canada . No additional roaming or registration fees are required . Coverage
will be available in Canada's most populous regions and
flight routes, with seamless service on cross-border flights .
Meanwhile, the company is billing its Iridium-based ST
4300 as a "single-box solution for global Iridium voice,
narrowband data and cockpit datalink services ." Available
with up to three voice/data channels, plus one dedicated
Iridium data channel, the new ST 4300 is designed to give
aircraft operators flexibility in configuring their cabin and
flight-deck communications system, with an emphasis on
specific capabilities and budgets . The company said the ST
4300 provides global service coverage - on the ground and
in the air, at all altitudes and latitudes - including the polar
regions .
The ST 4300 was available beginning June 1 . In the
future, it's expected to be eligible for FANS (future air navigation system) certification, with its satellite-based digital
datalink allowing a simplified solution for ATC communication . Additional ST 4300 features include an integrated
802 .11 b/g/n wireless access point and compatibility with
the Gogo OnePhone, Aircell's newest cabin handset . By
combining different functions into a single unit, Aircell said
the ST 4300 helps reduce installation weight and box
count, while the system's flexibility allows it to stand alone
or be paired with other services offering in-flight Internet
access, such as Gogo Biz and SwiftBroadband .
Earlier, Aircell announced its Gogo Vision service, providing an onboard in-flight entertainment and information
server, featuring a library of the latest movies and TV episodes, plus news, flight progress information and destination weather .

Alto Aviation
Another competitor in the market for in-flight entertainment is Alto Aviation, which is seeking to capitalize with
its new Acapella audio system series . Kevin Hayes, Alto's
vice president of sales and marketing, introduced the new
product line . Hayes told convention attendees the company
chose the name Acapella to highlight the product's ability
to serve as a stand-alone, miniature in-flight entertainment
solution without the need for third-party components .
The Acapella mini-IFE series is a complete, simple soluContinued on page 12...
