Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics Honors
The Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics is pleased to honor two former board members who served tirelessly
for many years on behalf of mathematics teachers of Texas. Serving in multiple capacities on the board, their work has
translated into many improvements in the services provided by TCTM and an expansion communications with the
membership through the Texas Mathematics Teacher journal, the TCTM website and the Conference for the Advancement
of Mathematics Teaching. The current TCTM Leadership Award will now be named the Nancy Trapp TCTM Leadership
Award and the Preservice Teacher Scholarships will be now be named the Cynthia L. Schneider Preservice Teacher
Scholarships. TCTM also has a third award, the E. Glenadine Gibb Leadership Award. A brief description of each
honoree follows. See page 48 of this journal for information on submitting nominations for these awards or visit
www.txmathteachers.org. Nominations for the two leadership awards are due by November 30, 2020 awards and
May 1, 2020 for the scholarship awards.

Nancy Trapp TCTM Leadership Award
Nancy Trapp, a native south Texan, was a teacher leader who taught in Lyford CISD in
the Rio Grande Valley. She was active in mathematics education leadership at the local
and state level, having served on the boards of directors of the Rio Grande Valley Council
of Teachers of Mathematics, the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics where she
was a Past President, and the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching
(CAMT). Each year, the TCTM Board of Directors honors Nancy's service by recognizing a
Texas mathematics educator who also exemplifies leadership in mathematics education at
the local and/or state level.

Cynthia L. Schneider Preservice Teacher Scholarships
Cynthia L. Schneider is a Past President of TCTM and has served in mathematics
education in a variety of roles during her career. She taught at the college level in the
Austin area, conducted research into teacher learning during her tenure at the Charles
A. Dana Center at the University of Texas, and served mathematics teachers at the state
level through a variety of roles on the TCTM Board of Directors, the CAMT Board of
Directors. Dr. Schneider also served nationally, providing leadership on the NCSM:
Leadership in Mathematics Education Board of Directors. Each year, we honor Dr.
Schneider's work, particularly her keen interest in making sure that beginning teachers
are well-prepared for success, by awarding scholarships to preservice mathematics teachers who are in their
final year of study.

E. Glenadine Gibb Leadership Award
Elizabeth Glenadine Gibb was a professor and mathematics teacher educator at the
University of Texas at Austin. Among her years of service to mathematics education, Dr.
Gibb was a Past President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
and the first editor of NCTM's professional journal, Arithmetic Teacher. Each year, the
TCTM Board of Directors honors Dr. Gibb's service by recognizing a Texas mathematics
educator who has made contributions to the field at the state and/or national level.
