On the Cover: Find the Mathematics... in the Garden!
a. How much soil will this garden bed hold?
b. You will also need to create a larger raised bed for
your garden. If you double all the dimensions of
the original bed, how much soil will the new bed
hold?
c. If you triple all the dimensions of the original bed,
how much soil will the new bed hold?
d. Solve parts b and c using a different method than
you originally used.

4. The germination percentage for dandelion seeds is
60%, meaning that for every ten seeds planted only six
will develop into a dandelion.
a. Create an equation, a table (with at least three
points), and a graph that represents the relationship between number of seeds planted and
germination.
b. Consider if this relationship is proportional or
non-proportional.
c. Research the germination percentage for your favorite plant or flower and create an equation and
graph that represents the relationship between
number of seeds planted and germination.

Algebra I & II
You are going to build a rectangular raised garden bed.
You only have 35 feet of wood to make the garden bed,
and the space for an area of 60 square feet. Based on this
information, find the best width and length for your garden. Explain your answer.

2. You have been asked to create a unique garden area.
It needs to be a composite shape consisting of at least
4 of the following shapes:
* Rectangle
* Square
* Triangle
* Semicircle
* Trapezoid
The area of the garden should be greater than 45 square
feet, but cannot exceed 60 square feet. Draw your garden area, label the dimensions, and prove the area is an
appropriate amount.
3. I have started planning my vegetable garden, but
I need some help. My plan is shown in the picture
below. I know where I'm going to plant the sweet
potatoes and pumpkins, but I do not know exactly
where to plant the squash and carrots. Use the following information to decide where the squash and
carrots should be planted, and label the location on
the picture:
a. The carrots should be planted 1/4 the distance between the sweet potatoes and pumpkins.
b. The pumpkins need some room to grow, so the
squash should be 1/2 the distance between the carrots and pumpkins.

built for your garden.
