Letter from the President
Dear Texas Mathematics Teachers,
As we have now embarked on one
of the most challenging years of our
careers, there are no adequate words
to express my appreciation for your
dedication to students. 2021-2022 is
a year in which unfinished learning
causes us all to take on additional
duties to ensure that we carry out
plans to accelerate students' learning
in mathematics. You are actively turning challenges into
opportunities to connect with students and increase their
belief in themselves as mathematicians. I am in awe of my
fellow teachers' commitment on a daily basis. Thank you
for being the people who care about students enough to
provide them with rich math instruction that expands their
knowledge, builds their skills, and increases their capability to
think critically.
The Texas Council of Teachers of
Mathematics (TCTM) aims to support you
during every school year, and especially
during this year as you are being asked to
commit to more than ever before. Here are
just a few of the ways we will support our
members in 2021 and beyond:
* Could you use up to $800 to improve your math
classroom or math teaching, help your school achieve
its math goals, or improve mathematics teaching and
learning? Apply for a TCTM Grant! Applicants must
be members of TCTM. The deadline for submission is
December 31.
* Did you attend CAMT in July? Join TCTM via Zoom
through CAMT's online platform every second
Wednesday of the month in one or more of our five
(5) online learning communities! If you weren't able
to join CAMT in summer 2021, you can still register
to benefit from these monthly sessions as well as
recorded content from the conference.
o 5:00 p.m. Using Technology to Teach Mathematics
(Audience: 6th - High School/College)
o 5:00 p.m. Support for Mathematics Leaders
(Audience: Kinder - 6th)
o 5:30 p.m. Differentiating Mathematics in Middle
Grades (Audience: 6th - 8th)
o 6:00 p.m. Vertical Alignment in Mathematics-Support
for COVID (Audience: Pre-K - 5th)
o 6:30 p.m. Elementary Math Content Training
(Audience: Pre-K - 5th)
It is my hope that the support TCTM is able to offer you as a
Texas mathematics teacher makes your journey through this
school year a little bit brighter. In this issue of the journal, you
will find support in the form of ready-made activities for your
classroom instruction, articles to increase your learning, and
information to grow your professional network through local,
state, and national organizations.

TCTM Leader Spotlight
Each year since 1995, TCTM has accepted nominations for
two awards for leaders in our professional community.
The TCTM Leadership Award is presented to a TCTM
member who is nominated by a TCTM affiliate. The second
award, the E. Glenadine Gibb Achievement Award, is
presented to someone nominated by a TCTM member.
The following individuals have been honored and we wish
to acknowledge their former and ongoing contributions
this year in the leader spotlight. If you wish to nominate
someone for 2022, please download the forms from our
website. Please submit your nomination by Dec. 31, 2021.
The award recipients for 2022 will be recognized at the
TCTM business meeting at CAMT 2022. See the program
for time and place of the meeting.
