N THIS DAY of constant quest for skilled

retiring baby boomers, women should be and
are playing an increasing role in meeting those
needs. While women currently make up 29% of
the manufacturing workforce, there is still much
more potential to be realized.
Th e organization, Women in Manufacturing
(WiM), Cuyahoga Falls, OH (womeninmanufacturing.com),
has its roots in an executive
networking group founded in 2010, called
Women in Metalforming. In the few short years
since, WiM has rapidly become an international
driving force that has helped women succeed,
and advance in a male-dominated environment.
WiM currently has 14,000+ members representing
2,000 companies in 40 countries. WiM
encompasses manufacturers of all types and
welcomes individuals from every job function-
production to the C-Suite. Th e organization

virtual learning, bi-annual
virtual career fairs, executive
networking group services, a
robust job board called WiMWorks,
20 annual meetings
and conferences, 31 local U.S. chapters,
and three formal professional-development
programs.
A 2016 addition is the WiM Education
Foundation (wimef.org). Th e Foundation is
charged with designing and developing training
and educational programs and services to support
the advancement and development of women
at all levels of their manufacturing careers.
Th eir latest off ering is the Empowering Women
in Production program, a 20-week course
designed to support the professional development
of production-fl oor employees: " Employees
in production settings oſt en have tremendous
insight into the culture, products, and processes
that manufacturing companies need to innovate.
By developing these women into leaders, we can
improve the industry overall and inspire other

Th e Education Foundation also manages the
Women in Manufacturing Hall of Fame which,
" seeks to recognize women who have made, or
are making, renowned contributions to the manufacturing
industry regarding eff orts to support,
promote, and inspire women in manufacturing. "
Since its inception in 2020, 24 trailblazing women
