Get to Know Our New Chair and New Directors
TOM SLATER
CHAIR
Tom is a thirdgeneration
farmer,
born and raised
in Clarksburg. He
has been farming
diversified crops there since graduating
from UC Davis in 1976 with a degree in
agricultural economics. Tom has been a
Reclamation District 999 board trustee
for over 15 years and currently serves
as president. He is the commissioner for
the Delta Protection Commission and
a current director for the North Delta
Water Agency, Central Valley Flood
Control Association and Yolo Subbasin
GSA. Tom also served on the FSA board
in Yolo County for nine years. He has
been a member of CAWG for over 25
years, serving as board vice chair and
state government affairs committee chair.
Tom resides in Clarksburg with his wife,
Deanna, and son, Matthew.
DAVE MICHUL
DISTRICT 1
Dave is president
and chief operating
officer at Beckstoffer
Vineyards and
oversees all
operations of the company's properties
in Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties.
He joined Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997
and has been the director of operations
with Beckstoffer Vineyards Napa Valley
since 1999. After graduating from Cal
Poly San Luis Obispo in 1984 - and prior
to joining Beckstoffer Vineyards - Dave
developed, managed and oversaw the
vineyard operations on the Central Coast
of California and Oregon for Bonny
Doon Vineyards, King Estate and Martin
Brothers.
AARON LANGE
DISTRICT 3
Aaron is a fifthgeneration
farmer
and vice president of
vineyard operations
with LangeTwins
Family Winery & Vineyards in Lodi.
During his 17 years at LangeTwins, he has
performed almost every job on the farm.
His current responsibilities are business
management, client relations, grape
sales, compliance, sustainability program
management, vineyard development
and oversight of the viticultural team.
Aaron previously served a full term on
the CAWG board and he is active in
other wine industry groups. He earned
a Bachelor of Science in viticulture and
managerial economics from UC Davis in
2003. He and his wife, Meghan, live in
Acampo and have three children: Julia,
Declan and Claire.
RON LANZA
DISTRICT 3
Ron is a thirdgeneration
grape
grower and
winemaker from
Suisun Valley and
president of Wooden Valley Winery
and Lanza Vineyards. In partnership
with his three brothers, they manage
approximately 400 acres of vineyards and
operate a winery. Ron's primary focus
is on marketing, finance, labor and land
management. The Lanza family supplies
grapes to wineries in California and
markets throughout the eastern U.S. Ron
is president of the Suisun Valley Vintners
and Growers Association and serves on
the Fairfield Convention and Visitors
Bureau board of directors. He and his
wife, Janet, have four sons, three of whom
work in the wine industry.
MOLLY SCOTT
DISTRICT 2
Molly has
successfully built
her career in wine
while driving the
development of
JUSTIN's vineyards and premium wine
brand. When she joined the team in 2011,
her role focused on research trials and
certifying the vineyards as sustainable.
Ten years later, as director of grower
relations, she oversees all grape sourcing
for JUSTIN and its other brands. As an
integral piece of the winemaking team,
she has established relationships within
the wine industry which are special
to her and the winery. Molly is the
chairwoman for the Paso Robles Wine
Country Alliance and helps fundraise
for scholarships for children of vineyard
workers. She and her husband live in
Paso Robles and have two young sons.
