Research Coordinator
Dr. Kristin Lowe is the PD/GWSS
Board's new research coordinator who
will oversee and guide the board's
extensive research program. She has
more than 20 years of experience
working with growers and researchers
in viticulture science and practical

a robust review process of research that
is relevant to their needs, " Lowe said.

Leadership Program.

Chief Ag Negotiator
Almond Alliance of California President
Elaine Trevino in September was
nominated by President Biden to serve
as the chief agricultural negotiator
for the Office of the U.S. Trade
Representative. Trevino, formerly a
deputy secretary at CDFA, received
support from industry representatives.
In June 2021, California Congressional
members and colleagues urged Biden
to nominate someone for the important
position to promote American
agriculture around the world, improve
and expand market access for U.S.
agriculture, and enhance the nation's ag

2022 Rich Smith Award
The Rich Smith Distinguished Service
Award recognizes an individual who
has made major contributions to the
American grape and wine industry
and research, while emulating Smith's
defining traits of passion, commitment
and collaboration. It is co-sponsored
by Winegrape Growers of America,
National Grape Research Alliance and
WineAmerica. Nominations are due Oct.
29, 2021. The recipient will be honored
at the WGA Leadership Luncheon in
Sacramento on Jan. 26, 2022.

In Memoriam:
Jean-Mari Peltier
Jean-Mari Peltier passed away on Sept. 24 after
fighting a long illness. Her career in the wine/
winegrape industry included president of the
National Grape & Wine Initiative (2008-2015),
member of the Pierce's Disease Advisory Task
Force and manager of the consolidated Central
Valley Table Grape Pest & Disease Control
District. She also worked for the National
Council of Farmer Cooperatives and the
California Department of Pesticide Regulation.
CAWG greatly appreciates her career of service
to our industry and extends our deepest
sympathies to her family and loved ones.
