TTB to Modify AVA Boundaries in
Monterey County
Effective Sept. 24, the boundaries of two AVAs in Monterey
County will be modified. The modifications include removing
approximately 376 acres from the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA,
and removing 148 acres from the Arroyo Seco AVA and placing
them entirely within the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.

Increase
California highlights from the USDA National Agricultural
Statistics Service 2021 land values report:
Farm real estate average
value per acre increased
9%, from $10,000 in 2020 to
$10,900 in 2021.
Cropland average value
per acre increased 7.4%,
from $12,900 in 2020 to
$13,860 in 2021.
Foundation Plant
Services Announces
New Director
Dr. Maher Al Rwahnih was named
director of Foundation Plant Services
(FPS) at UC Davis, succeeding Dr.
Deborah Golino. He has worked for FPS
for many years, including as director
of the FPS Diagnostics and Research
Laboratory since 2016. Al Rwahnih
earned a Ph.D. and master's degree
in plant virology. He is an expert in
the diagnosis and control of infectious
diseases of grapevines and fruit trees.

Fresno State Welcomes
Assistant Professor of
Viticulture
Dr. Cliff Yu has joined the Fresno
State Department of Viticulture and
Enology team as an assistant professor
of viticulture. He earned his Ph.D.
(horticulture and agronomy) at UC
Davis and master's degree (viticulture
and enology) at Fresno State. He was
previously a postdoctoral researcher
at Oakville Research Station and has
extensive viticulture research experience
and publications.
