initiatives
The Visit Champaign County team actively sells and promotes the community as a destination to live,
work and visit. In collaboration with stakeholders and community partners, we celebrated numerous
successes in FY20.
AJGA TOURNAMENT
The American Junior Golf Association held
their tournament in August 2020 at the
Urbana Country Club, with 78 players aged
12-15 from 28 states. This was the first
of many tournaments that will be held in
Champaign County as we solidify ourselves
as a destination for golf.
2021 RESTAURANT WEEK
For the 5th annual Champaign County Area
Restaurant Week, we pivoted to a takeout edition! 26
restaurants participated-11 for the first time-with
take home meals for one, two, and family packs. The
website saw over 30,000 views and social media
posts and comments were in abundance!
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION
This past year, the VCC team focused on
MEET SAFE
improving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
efforts. Planning for the Champaign County
African American Cultural & Heritage Trail is
underway. A DEI Marketing Council was formed
to ensure content reflects our community.
Finally, the team completed the United Way
Equity Challenge.
In an effort to showcase the greater
Champaign County area as a safe meeting
destination, we created Meet Safe. This guide
highlights efforts of our meeting spaces to
mitigate COVID-19. Individual videos for our
meeting properties were also created and
shared with meeting planners giving them a
first-hand view of precautions in place.
