Lloyd Linkiewich
R.E.T., PMP

Lloyd Linkiewich was born in Edmonton, and grew up in
Vegreville, Alberta, before moving back to the city. He's
been captivated with everything electronic from his teenage
years, taking electronics classes and working for an electrician in high school.
Lloyd graduated from NAIT in 1981. He took the electronics
engineering technologist program, with an option in telecommunications. After graduation, Lloyd landed a job with
TELUS, precursor Ed Tel. In his 29 years with the company,
he spent 15 years in outside plant design before moving into
project and senior program management.
Besides an illustrious career as a technologist, Lloyd turned
his other passion for photography into an award-winning
business with his wife, for 17 years. When Lloyd left TELUS
in 2010, he opened a cupcake bakery with his wife.
Telecommunications soon called him back, and Lloyd returned to TELUS. He's worked at four different telecom companies since, including his current employer Aecon. Since
returning to the field, Lloyd's roles have varied from project
management to vice-president of operations.
While holding these positions, Lloyd received ASET certification as a C.E.T. and R.E.T. He eventually became a professional licensee in engineering (P.L. (Eng.)) with APEGA. On
top of all these licenses, he added a project management
professional (PMP) certification. While at TELUS, Lloyd began giving back to his profession when he started as an auditor with the R.E.T. joint registration board.
Since he started volunteering, Lloyd hasn't stopped. At
ASET, he has chaired for the inaugural P.Tech. and practice
review boards. He's also served as a sitting member for the
practice review boards, senior technology committee, and
currently holds an auditor position with Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC).

With a rich history of both membership and volunteerism with
ASET, Lloyd wants to continue contributing to the association
as a Councillor. Over 39 years he's fostered an aptitude for
leadership. He plans to use this skill to benefit the profession
and the association's membership. Never one to back down
from a challenge, Lloyd is outspoken on contentious issues.
He's also a stickler for the right solution, and always takes the
time to find the right answer through rigorous research.
Lloyd's specific goals if elected will be to work with government and industry leaders across Alberta to help the province
keep up with the rest of Canada in technological progress.
" The combination of Alberta's recession, a global pandemic
and government cutbacks have contributed to a regression in Alberta's potential to lead the country in technical
advances, " Lloyd says. " As we transition from an energybased history to a greener future, we must continue to look
at new options like transportation, artificial intelligence and
less reliance on carbon fuels for jobs. "
To accomplish this, Lloyd holds that the ASET Council will
" need to lobby the Alberta government to support and offer
incentives to get technologists back to work in new growth
opportunities, like AI, new energy sources and further emission reductions. "
ASET has the power to bring about these transitions, which
is exactly what Lloyd aims to leverage.
" We as the ASET team must get behind the drive to bolster the talented individuals that we have in this province
to become the Canadian leaders in technological advancements, " he says.
" With these challenges taken into consideration, ASET must
re-ignite Alberta's passion for leading Canada's innovation
in technology. "
Lloyd has been married to his wife Tracy for 37 years. They
have two beautiful daughters, both in their twenties. The
couple still continue their passion for photography, cruising and their love of Siamese cats. Lloyd is a certified drone
pilot. He tries to get as much flying time in as he can.
