Originally from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Paul Pritchard
was in Edmonton for a Taekwondo tournament in 1986, and
decided to tour the NAIT instrumentation department where
his brother was attending school. Realizing he wanted to
pursue this field, Paul registered in the fall of that year for
the instrumentation engineering technology program and
graduated in 1989.
Paul was hired on with Davis Controls Ltd. before graduating, and worked there for a short time. Deciding that Spartan
Controls Ltd. would help him on his career path to obtain his
journeyman instrumentation and control technician ticket,
Paul joined Spartan and remained working with the company for the 30 years making up the rest of his career.
As one of the top 50 businesses in Canada, Spartan provided numerous opportunities for both professional and personal growth. Paul started as a technician, and enjoyed the
hands-on assembly of instrumentation and troubleshooting
of customer problems for 21 years. He then went over to the
inside sales position with fire and safety devices. There he
worked with EPCs, contractors and end users. He finished
his time at Spartan with a position in the direct controls
business unit, where he provided day-to-day orders, chiefly
to electrical contractors.
On what he would bring to the table as a Councillor, Paul
outlines a multi-pronged approach:

" For existing and future legislation, we should work to involve more discussions with industry leaders to ensure an
entrepreneurial spirit as an integral part of the process, " he
says.
Paul feels that education is one of the most important aspects of a person's life, and ASET is a cornerstone in this.
ASET provides numerous benefits to its members, and one
of Paul's goals is to build up an attitude in both employees
and employers that these benefits have financial and professional merit.
Paul's final goal if elected would entail creating a process
where every two-three years, ASET members would review
the association's Code of Ethics, bylaws and legislation.
Even though Paul has a specific series of steps he'd like to take
to improve ASET, he's ultimately a team player, and is ready to
work with the rest of the Council to get the work done.
" I do want to stress that I believe the goals of the Council
would be developed as a team, and regardless of whether
my personal thoughts were incorporated or not, I would
work to develop the Council's goals, " he says.
Paul enjoys exploring Alberta's outdoors, panning for gold,
archery, fishing and hunting. He lives in Beaumont with his
wife Colette, and their two children: The oldest is in high
school, the youngest in middle school.

" I believe with the current situation around COVID-19, we
need to continue to ensure that we support our members
with more available online courses, both technical and selfimprovement, " he says.
Paul would also like to develop a program aimed at showing
potential members that ASET membership is more than just
a string of letters at the end of a name. With this program, he
would highlight all the value association membership brings.
