ASET caps 2020 with noteworthy news impact
The ingenuity of ASET members and stakeholders continued to shine in the limelight during the last quarter of 2020.
A third 2020 Capstone Project of the Year Award media
campaign launched in late September, showcasing a finalist
team from Lethbridge College. The story about how to build
a better, less breakable lacrosse stick - featuring ASET and
former team members Ralph Dabao, Nathan McMurray and
Austin Bruder - exceeded its goals in terms of media coverage. It resulted in interviews on Edmonton's 630 CHED Afternoons with J'lyn Nye, Global News at 5 Lethbridge, CTV
News Lethbridge at 5, CBC Daybreak Alberta, and Calgary's
CHQR Morning News.
The lacrosse stick story also scored coverage in the Lethbridge Herald, Lethbridge News Now, Pincher Creek Echo,
The Star, Design Engineering, The World News, Canadian
Press, Kingston Whig Standard, Fort McMurray Today, Simcoe Reformer, Spruce Grove Examiner, Peace Country Sun,

Early November marked the media debut of a team of former
SAIT students, including ASET members Kathryn Talabucon
and Jahziel Ortega, whose laser harp project received third
prize in a national technology competition, the Technology
Accreditation Canada (TAC) 2020 Technology Report Contest. ASET's subsequent media effort proved to be music to
the ears of Global Calgary and CHQR The Drive, which aired
comprehensive interviews. CFOX Vancouver also posted a
web story.

A multipronged media campaign prior to the holiday season
focused on engineering technology education in the age of
COVID-19. It highlighted strategies innovated by technology institutes and colleges to comply with social distancing
protocols while continuing to provide effective engineering
technology instruction - including labs - to students.
The three successive media campaigns in Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer earned media coverage in their respective markets, including from CHQR The Danielle Smith
Show, CHQR The Drive, CTV Red Deer, Global News Lethbridge, CTV Lethbridge, Lethbridge Herald, Lethbridge
News Now, rdnewsNOW, 100.3 The Bear, and Education
News Canada.
