Volunteer position descriptions
Appeal and Joint Appeal Boards
Volunteers ensure that C.Tech. and C.E.T. applicants and
members have full protection of their statutory right to
appeal and right to natural justice by their peers following
the decisions of ASET committees and boards.
Application Advisor
In this role, volunteers support applicants during the
completion of their competency summary component
prior to review by a subject matter expert.
Awards Advisory Committee
Volunteers on this committee select the recipients of the
annual ASET Awards including the Award of Excellence,
Outstanding Educator, Outstanding Employer Support,
Volunteer of the Year, Excellence in Mentoring, and the
Capstone Project of the Year.
Board of Examiners and
Joint Board of Examiners
Volunteers in these positions are subject matter experts
and work to review applicant files, academic assessments,
and qualifications of C.Tech., C.E.T. and P.Tech. applicants
to determine certification eligibility.
Investigative Committee
Volunteers in these positions investigate complaints
concerning regulated members of ASET and contribute
to the self-regulation of the profession.
Discipline and Joint Discipline Committees
Volunteers in these positions review recommendations
from ASET's investigative committees concerning
complaints against regulated members, and determine
disciplinary courses of action as required.
Mentors
These volunteers form a mutually beneficial relationship
with students, junior professionals and internationally
trained ASET members who seek experience-based
knowledge, guidance, and career advice.
PLAR Advisors and Assessors
Volunteers in these positions support C.Tech. applicants
requiring technical assistance with their Prior Learning
Assessment and Recognition portfolios. These volunteers
also work as subject matter experts by reviewing C.Tech.
learning portfolios.
Practice Review and
Joint Practice Review Boards
Volunteers in these positions oversee the Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) program and conduct
reviews of the practice of regulated members in
accordance with the Act.
Presenter - Outreach Program
These volunteers deliver presentations to students and
newcomers to Canada to share the benefits of becoming
an ASET member, the pathways toward certification and
an overview of professional ethics. Volunteers also share
their experiences as technology professionals within their
chosen discipline.
Competency Profile Development
and Certification Exams
Since 2013, volunteers have helped to develop disciplinespecific
competency profiles and exams. These exams are
used to confirm that applicants who have not graduated
from an accredited program meet the minimum standards
of competency.
Subject Matter Experts (Board of Examiners)
These volunteers support the work of the Board of
Examiners by conducting applicant file reviews.
Title Misuse Committee
These volunteers support the Registration & Practice
department by ensuring those using ASET credentials
are members of ASET.
