RAF TENDERENDA'S mission if elected to Council will
be to keep ASET's membership from declining, via a multipronged
approach. Foremost, Raf wants to enhance the value
an ASET membership provides. To increase membership
value, he will push for more networking events, expanded
employee discounts, and continual education seminars that
focus on innovation and technology.
Additionally, Raf understands that ASET needs a strong
voice so that it can influence future changes in the Engineering
and Geoscience Professions Act. He would use his
elected seat to be part of a committee dedicated to addressing
the current and future needs of technologists in
Alberta. Specifically, this committee would address those
needs as they relate to the Act. He will ensure a strong, concise,
and impactful message is delivered when liaising with
government, one that can't be ignored.
Raf's extensive education started when he graduated from
NAIT's civil engineering technology program in 2004. He
next received his bachelor's degree in technology from Memorial
University, and in 2019 earned an MBA. Raf began
his career working as an engineering technologist for the
City of Edmonton, soon moving up the ranks to operations
management and project management.
Raf's relationship with ASET stretches back to 2003 when
he was a student at NAIT. He went on to receive his P.Tech.
(Eng.) designation in 2014. He obtained his PMP designation
in 2020.
In 2018 Raf won the ASET Technologist of the Year Award,
for his technical expertise. This included providing an effective
and unique solution to eliminating inflow/infiltration
(I/I) coming into sanitary manholes. He was also selected
because of his commitment to the association's principles,
his contributions to up-and-coming technologists and his
many hours of volunteer work. Adding to that, Raf participates
in the mentorship program at ASET, helping young
technologists find their footing in the field. He's additionally
a member of ASET's investigation committee, previously
serving as its chair, and a director on the board of the ASET
Educational Foundation.
These roles with ASET are joined by a long list of other volunteer
efforts. In 2016, Raf volunteered to help with the Fort
McMurray fire relief effort. His mentoring experience extends
from ASET too; Raf provides mentorship to new Canadians at
the Edmonton Region Employment Immigration Council.
The lessons Raf has gained from his collective work and
volunteer experience in different communities and associations
make him a prime candidate for the Councillor position.
As a 20-year ASET member, he's seen his career grow
alongside ASET's own development. As a Councillor, he
plans to keep that mutual growth alive and well.
