Message From the ASET Educational Foundation
Executive Director & Chair of the Board of Directors
The ASET Educational and Scholarship Foundation (Foundation)
has celebrated over three decades of support for
science and engineering technology students in Alberta.
The Foundation has continued to grow and now provides
20 scholarships and bursaries to NAIT, SAIT and Lethbridge
College students. Additionally, the Foundation has formed
relationships with Medicine Hat College, Red Deer College
and Lakeland College as institutions in Alberta that have
students eligible for the Foundation's awards. We look forward
to receiving applicants from those institutions in 2023.
The Foundation has welcomed new corporate donors, and
the Board would like to thank new donors Pinchin Ltd., Geo
Tactical Remediation, and GeoVerra for their commitment to
student success. We would also like to thank The Personal
Insurance Company for their continued support, as well as
ASET itself, which continues to be our biggest donor.
2022 was a year of growth for the Foundation and we will
continue that growth moving through 2023. With new additions
to our Board, we have seen an increase in our capabilities
and a drive to push further. The Foundation completed
a strategic planning session in the fall of 2022 which has led
to changes to our structure in March 2023. The Foundation
aims to support individuals who are dedicated to their studies,
contributors to their communities, and achievers of high
academic standing. The scholarships and bursaries they receive
can often mean the difference between hardship and
stability while completing their studies.
The recipients of awards in 2022 were among the biggest
candidate pools the Foundation has seen for each award,
and it was difficult to select a single winner amid them.
Speaking with a few of the winners, I heard how important
these funds are to them and how it contributes to their overall
ability to provide for themselves and their families while
completing their education. I wish we had more to give to
these students, and the increase in the number of applicants
clearly demonstrates the need for more donors and
funding to the Foundation.
I see firsthand how important applied science and technology
professionals are and the contributions technologists
make to organizations and industry. The demand for
technologists continues to expand to help sustain growing
industries in Alberta. Capstone projects at technical institutions
continue to innovate and help change our world, and
the innovative minds behind the projects are just at the start
of their careers. They are the future of technology professionals
in Alberta and deserve support and recognition
while completing their education. They need your individual
support, and the support of corporations who rely on their
expertise and talents.
As the Executive Director and Chair of the Foundation, it is
my great honour to be able to help contribute to the success
of students in their studies. I am excited to lead the
Foundation through the next few years and I want to thank
those who have helped make the Foundation what it is today.
The Foundation's goals are to continue its growth with
new membership and donors, so we can provide additional
scholarships and bursaries with larger award values to
students. Our new organizational structure allows for new
membership opportunities and a chance to make a significant
contribution to the applied science and engineering
technology profession.
I encourage everyone to show support for the Foundation
and donate to the next generation of science and engineering
technology professionals. Every bit counts and even a
small amount from each individual in a large group of people
can make a big difference. For ways to show support,
