ASET Technology Alberta Summer 2016 - 19

Advanced Heating Solutions -Flameless Heater Meet the Project Members Bryce Abell I was born and raised in Red Deer and participated in many events at Red Deer College when I was growing up, so RDC was a clear choice for me and I knew I would eventually go to school there. The hard part for me was choosing which program I wanted to enroll in because the decision would be with me forever. During high school I wasn't particularly interested in the core courses but I was intrigued by some of the options I chose, and thanks to the support of one of my teachers, I was able to do well in metal fabrication and electrical work. Being interested in those areas was a major factor in deciding which program to take. Initially, I was interested in taking the full engineering program; however I'm a hands-on learner and figured I would be able to achieve higher standards in the technology program. I decided to do all of my schooling in Red Deer because it is a smaller school, giving me the opportunity to take better advantage of resources such as materials, space, instructors, and classmates. Being in a small class allows for everyone to become closer to each other, including instructors. This was important to me because connections are important and you never know when you're going to run into someone you know. If you are looking for a great place to finish your schooling in an environment filled with assistance and a comfortable place to learn then I would highly recommend RDC. Jordan Gutek When I graduated from Caroline School in 2013 there were only 23 other people in my class. As a result, one of the major reasons I chose to attend RDC was the size of the college. I figured the smaller class sizes would be much less intimidating to me while also allow more availability and a more personal experience with the instructor. Attending college with a class size similar to that of high school made it quite comfortable for me. Another factor was that RDC is only a 45 minute drive to my hometown, whereas other options were at least two hours away. I was happy to be accepted into the new Mechanical Engineering Technology program starting in the fall of 2014 as the program seemed to suit me well. During my time at Red Deer College, I enjoyed and appreciated the instructors, campus, and extracurricular options. The highlight of the program was the hands-on lab time working on projects and building knowledge of the processes of equipment such as the welder, lathe, and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Ryley Krause When my family and I arrived in Red Deer from Grande Prairie in 2012, RDC was the clear choice for me when I was considering my schooling options. I wasn't sure what to expect in 2014 upon being accepted into the College's newly-redesigned Mechanical Engineering Technology. Once school started, it quickly became apparent that our small class sizes allowed us considerable one-on-one learning with high-quality instructors who were very proficient in the topics they were teaching. On top of the great instructors, lab time was abundant and we had access to brand new equipment, which allowed us to gain relevant experience with technology that is currently being used in industry. Elliott Mabbott I grew up in the rural community of Halkirk, 30 minutes east of Stettler. Being used to the small-town setting, the thought of going to a big city college straight out of high school was a little daunting. RDC was a logical choice as it is close to home and located in a smaller city with which I was already familiar. Once I began my studies I realized the advantage of smaller class sizes was that instructors were more easily accessible and available to provide additional instruction both inside and outside the classroom, as needed. The smaller class sizes also meant lab time was easier to access, which allowed me better opportunities to cement in a hands-on setting the theories I had been taught in class.
