ASET Technology Alberta Summer 2016 - 22

I was born and raised in Calgary, graduating from
Bishop Grandin High before attending SAIT, where I
earned a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I am currently attending the University of Calgary,
where I am enrolled in Energy Engineering. In winter,
I enjoy playing hockey and going to Flames games
whenever I can. In the summer I like to spend my time
at my parents' cabin in British Columbia on Columbia
Lake. All in all, I'm just an average kid who hopes to
one day do something big in life. Each day I look forward to what the future holds.
the practical hands-on experience I had gained as
a welder came to be on paper, from idea to finished
product. Learning all of these things opened my
eyes to so many practical applications. For example,
I re-examined my own custom-built car, assessing
the suspension and frame that I originally had built
when I was a welder. My schooling at SAIT allowed
me to see things differently and recognise many areas for optimization and weight reduction.

Your average Canadian, I started skating when I was
just 2 years old, with dreams of making it to the NHL-
but that didn't really pan out. After graduating from
high school I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do
with my life but I figured the best starting point would
be SAIT's two-year Mechanical Engineering Technology Program. It was the perfect amount of time to
see if this was something that actually interested me,
and the perfect program because it can lead to a wide
range of jobs. Basically, it was a good way to see if
this is what I wanted to do with my life-better than
going to university and finding out half-way through
a four-year program that this maybe wasn't the right
choice. The hands-on aspect at SAIT really grabbed
my attention and made the learning experience that
much better.
I was born and raised in Calgary. In high school, I
was tossing around so many ideas of what I wanted
to do with my life, and I really had no idea what to
choose. Eventually, I decided to pursue engineering.
When I was applying to post-secondary schools, the
number of different types of engineering was overwhelming. I did some research and mechanical engineering was the most appealing to me. The MET
program at SAIT was the only program I applied to,
and I just hoped for the best. I got in and after only
a semester, I already knew I loved it. In my second
year at SAIT, I was the mechanical lead for the 2016
Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR)
team. It was such an amazing feeling to put in the effort to design something and then to see it actually
being built and used. For our capstone projects, we
had the choice of whether or not we would build our
designs, and I knew I wanted to build it. I was thrilled
when I found out that my group members also had
the same aspirations to make it a reality.

I was born and raised in Calgary. After high school I
spent eight years working in welding, achieving Red
Seal. During my years as a welder I often wondered
why the things we built were designed the way they
were. So after obtaining my certification I began upgrading classes while working so that I could apply
to post-secondary schools for engineering. I actually found out I'd been accepted in SAIT's Mechanical Engineering Technology program in 2014 while
I was on our yearly family kayaking trip. My time
at SAIT has been invaluable, as I was shown how
After finishing high school, I studied Mechanical Engineering Technology at SAIT with a specialization
in Design and Analysis. During my time at SAIT, I
learned many practical skills in the field of mechanical engineering. My schooling has given me insight
into the various steps and processes that are involved
in mechanical design, from the conceptual stages to
the production and fabrication of any given project. I
also enjoy photography as a hobby and plan to attend
school in British Columbia to finish my degree.
