The Personal announces refunds
to auto insurance clients
Clients of the Personal's auto insurance policies can take
comfort in the fact that they'll soon be getting some money
back in their pockets.
The Personal recently announced plans to refund their auto
insurance clients' premiums, in response to increasing
numbers of clients working from home during the pandemic.
In an email to the company's partners, Director of Account
Development Marisa Ruhlman said that "with limited road
travel, we have noted fewer car accidents and reduced claim
volumes, [and] therefore would like to reflect this circumstance
by issuing a refund."
Ruhlman went on to say that the company will be refunding
its clients between 25 per cent to 40 per cent of the premium
they pay for one month, reflective of what is happening in each
province. This refund adds up to 28 million dollars collectively.
According to the email, the refund payments will automatically
show up through clients' usual payment channels, meaning no
action is needed on their part. This aligns with other actions
taken by the Personal and its parent company, Desjardins,
since the pandemic started.
In a statement in the Personal's newsletter, Senior VicePresident Paul Douglas emphasized how important community assistance is to both the Personal and Desjardins.

"Now more than ever, Desjardins and The Personal are
embracing our cooperative values and honouring our mission
to help improve the economic and social well-being of people
and communities," Douglas said. Speaking about this mission,
he pointed a few of the measures the Personal has taken.
"As an organization, we have donated more than 60,000 PPE
masks and The Personal has donated $50,000 to healthcare
related charities," Douglas said. This contribution continues
a trend set by Desjardins, which became "the first Canadian
financial institution to announce relief measures in response
to the COVID-19 pandemic," on 16 March 2020.
