Message from
the President
Ray Wilkinson, C.E.T.
Beginning my term as the ASET President for 2020 - 2021,
I am happy to report that ASET is adapting well to the
current conditions with which we are faced.
The tragic healthcare conditions from the COVID-19 virus
pandemic continue to frighten us as we worry for our
families, neighbours and friends. However, we know that
scientists all over the world are working together to find a
cure for this virus. At home, across our country and around
the world, healthcare professionals are caring for us if we
become ill or are infected.
We've all been working together to follow the guidelines
to prevent the spread of this disease. We do so through
frequent hand-washing, disinfecting any possible
contaminated surfaces, not touching our faces, keeping a
safe/social distance from everyone we meet in person and
staying home if we feel ill.
"Stay well" and "stay safe" have become our new
expressions, replacing "goodbye" or "see you later."
ASET is adapting to using videoconferencing to produce
events we used to conduct in person. These events
include our 2020 Annual General Meeting, the new
Council orientation and even our ASET Awards. We've also
presented member events in this new format. These events
are designed for learning and to help members cope with
turbulent economic times.
Even faced with the current pandemic and shifting
economic conditions around the world, the ASET team
in Registration and Practice, Programs and Services and
Finance and Administration have been able to continue the
successful delivery of our 2020 Strategic Plan priorities.
These goals remain critical to the success of ASET's vision
to be universally recognized as the progressive, selfregulating body of professional technologists.
I wish all of you the best of health as we move ahead. Have
a great summer.

We are learning new communication skills and tools.
Video conferencing with Zoom, Microsoft Teams and
GotoWebinar are used frequently. While the new video
conferencing is popular with some, others are finding the
telephone an easier way to connect with people. On the
telephone you don't feel like someone is always looking
at you.
