THE FOREFRONT OF
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
IN CANADA, boasting the
highest rate across the country
according to the Calgary-based
Centre for Innovation Studies (THECIS).
An article from THECIS covering a report from the Global Entrepreneurship
Monitor on Albertan entrepreneurship found
" that 19.6% of Albertans aged 18-64 are involved in starting
a business. This is higher than the rate for Canada as a whole
(18.8%) and higher than all other innovation driven economies
including the US, Australia and Israel. "
Many of the small businesses created by these entrepreneurs
involve technology development. Data from Small
Business Alberta showed that professional, scientific and
technical services had the largest proportion of small businesses
by sector in the province in 2013.
Such a healthy contingent of innovators stands to reach new
heights... given the right supports at takeoff. This support
role is where the Alberta Centre for Advanced MNT Products
(ACAMP) comes in.
Founded in 2007, ACAMP uses its considerable labour and
technology resources to help inventors and developers take
their technology from proof-of-concept to a manufactured
product. Through these resources, the centre works as a catalyst
for the growth of Canadian technology businesses. As
Canada's largest independent advanced technology product
development centre, it enables Canadian enterprises to
leverage a highly qualified engineering support team with
leading-edge development tools.
" We're providing a service that really isn't commercially available
anywhere else, certainly not in Alberta, nor anywhere in
Canada, " Ken Brizel, ACAMP's CEO, says.

The centre combines a multidisciplinary team of engineers
and tech experts with its over $15 million of specialized
equipment to launch some of the most groundbreaking products
in the country. Since founding, ACAMP has helped over
500 clients commercialize their inventions, on average supporting
120 projects per year.
