Summer is here, and with it hopefully a return to all of the
things we've been missing. As always, ASET is abuzz with
activity. First, let me welcome the new Council members
chosen in this year's election. These committed individuals
are already working hard to maintain and improve the
processes of our association. With Council's support, the
Registration Services team is also doing our utmost to keep
ASET vital and healthy, no matter the times.
2021 is off to a strong start with bolstering the association's
ranks, with T.T., C.E.T., P.Tech. certifications and reclassifications
higher than those of Q1 of 2020. Engagement remains
high with current members, as well. The CPD audit for
the 2020 audit year has begun, and 47 per cent of C.Tech.,
C.E.T., and R.E.T. members, and 68 per cent of P.Tech. members
audited have already confirmed compliance.
Exam centres remain open, with limited capacity to ensure
safety and compliance with government health rules. Accordingly,
more exam dates have been scheduled to allow
more applicants to write the exam in physical locations, and
finalize their applications.
Meanwhile, we remain diligent in optimizing our registration
processes. Our team developed a new member survey to fill
any inefficiencies in the application process. This survey is
included with the new member information package. We're
also taking steps to ensure information pertinent to members
is easy to find.
To have important information ready for existing members,
we've added a section to the website on permit holder
practice reviews. As well, we've updated the permit roster
to include the license issue date and the city of the permit
holder, to better inform the public about those serving them.
Work continues on expanding the overall certification exam
program, as we seek to offer as many discipline-specific
options as possible. For those unfamiliar with this initiative,
this kind of testing is required for all C.E.T. applicants
who've graduated from post-secondary programs not accredited
by Technology Accreditation Canada. The process
is designed to verify that individuals have a level of educational
knowledge equivalent to what is expected of two-year
Alberta technology program graduates. We currently have
seven discipline-specific certification exams, with an eighth
one in construction engineering technology slated for development
this year.
As we return to the things we
missed, Alberta and its technical
landscape continues to evolve
to meet the needs of today and
anticipate those of tomorrow.
